David & Mai  > Boats > Dersu - A custom 43 foot steel boat designed for high latitude sailing
Dersu was in Denmark and had been waiting for us for two years. She had previously sailed to Antarctica and our goal was upon retirement to take her back again. But then came along the Tsunami and damage to Hocux Pocux which curtailed our overseas travel plans a bit while she was being repaird back in Phuket. So to keep ourselves busy with some local travels we bought a bike and started to ride this part of Asia. I guess the rest is history; found the bike(s) to be as much fun as boats and also allowed us to stay closer to home and our son who is still in school.

David & Mai > View of her Dutch built Rondal mast. Massively strong and of a very high finish. It is no longer possible to obtain a mast of this quality, for this size boat. Rondal only builds spars for superyachts today.
David & Mai > View of helm. Edson steering and Suunto compass. 406 Mhz EPIRB at pushpit. Towgeneraor, Aries windvane and Harken backstaytensioner can also be seen.
David & Mai > View of navigation station. Generous charttable makes placing a folded admirality chart possible. Full set of electronics ensures safe passage making.
David & Mai > Saloon table. Comfortably accomodates 8 guests. Notice sewing machine used as counterweight under table. Table gimballs while at sea, making dinning at table possible in all conditions.
