Chiang Khong, The Kawi Sabai, (AKA The Farm) then and now 2007-2005 : We started this project June 2005 and finished October 2006. And today (22 Feb. 2007) I got busy and took some photos and then put them together with ones taken back when we first started. The property is 650 meters by 150 meters deep with a small lane on one side and a small stream on the other. The Mekong river is 300 meters away with the mountians of Laos in the background. We cut down over 180 trees and then planted over 200 new one. There are over 20 species of fruit trees. Too many varieties of flowering plants, shrubs and trees, plus many types of veggies, spices and herbs. Plus fish in the Big fish pond.

Building design was a 5 minute job on scratch paper on then getting some local carpenters the next day to start work. Everything was kinda like build and design as we go...

We hope you enjoy!

Cheers David and Mai

Chiang Khong, The Kawi Sabai - The Happy Buffalo (AKA The Farm) November 2005 : With 650 meters of country lane frontage and an equal amount of creek frontage on the oposite side, by 160 meters deep, we've got a bit of space and work to do. After five months of work the guest house is built and land cleared for the larger house to follow in a few years, when maybe we are not traveling so much. Also constructed seven storage buildings for all the wood we cut down, plus we needed storage for tools and equipment, Laundry room for workers, etc. By Early January there should also be additional living quarters for four other persons, plus Thai style kitchen and outdoor coverd gathering area. While 180 trees were cleared to allow in some sun light and to cut out old growth trees, new trees were planted, giving us 18 different types of fruit trees with 150 lemon trees, veggie garden in, fish pond ready for filling of water and cat fish, teak trees planted and general lanscaping well underway. Irrigation system has beeb started and should be finished by early January. Now we'll let everything settle in a bit and in the late Spring do the final bits and pieces of landscaping, prior to the onset of the rainy season.

Up-date. 16 months later and we called it quits - for now. We build more later, but for now, it's time to travel. Will add more pics to this site once Spring is back.

Chiang Khong Farm June 2005 : We saw potential - just needed some clearing and a lot of re-working. Where there was this much work to do there had to be an oportunity somewhere... :-)
